Not only is Coconut Creek a terrific place to live and work, it is also officially the butterfly capital of the world. Coconut Creek is home to the largest butterfly aviary in the world. Butterfly world features over 80 different species of butterflies and there are over 5,000 individual butterflies housed within its walls. It is one of Florida’s top tourist destinations.
Coconut Creek has also been officially recognized by Florida’s government as the butterfly capital of the world. Both the City Commission and House of Representatives have passed resolutions recognizing the city as the home of the world’s largest butterfly habitat. Also, because of its subtropical climate, Coconut Creek is home to species of butterflies that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.
The City of Coconut Creek has what they like to call “butterfly pride”. Annually the city hosts the Butterfly Festival, the 5K Butterfly Run, and the Butterfly Parade. All of these events are fun for the whole family and further promote the city’s love of butterflies!
